Dust, Ash & Wind create Art on my hood

I took this pic yesterday at the gas station, All the dust and Ash that is blowing in from Malibu has created some pretty dust art on my hood, thought i'd share... Also i washed the car 3 hours before noticing all this dust on the car... no point to wash until fires stop.

CJ ... mine stayed in the garage! And didn't burn down. But im still banned from the house. I hope there isn't alot of ashes like the other cars.

boggtown 10-23-2007 01:16 PM

Only posers have dirty cars... :p

blinkwatt 10-23-2007 01:51 PM

Hey CJ how close are you to the fires? Sounds like this is a pretty darn big fire if your getting ashes miles away.

CJ_Boxster 10-23-2007 02:52 PM

im like 45 minutes from the fires but the ashes float down fast cause the wind has been so strong, took the ashes and dust to get here within 4 hours.

CJ,

I can't get over how good your car looks since the repaint ( even with the dust ). Are your headlights yellowing or is that just the way it looks in the pictures ?

Nick

CJ_Boxster 10-24-2007 12:41 PM

Thanks! Yeah the headlights are yellowing. I want to replace them with some clears but they are pricey.

CJ,

After looking at the dust on your car I tried really hard to figure out what was sitting on your windshield wiper. I finally opened my eyes and saw your gas door lid open and remembered you said you were buying gas. For some reason I'm troubled every time I add gas about where to place my gas cap. I know this is a weird thought.

I wonder if 987's come with gas caps attached so they just hang when removed? I've had other cars that had places built in the gas door to hold the cap when removed.

CJ_Boxster 10-24-2007 01:39 PM

Yeah i had that issue then i figured out the slots cut into the cap were there to latch on to the gas door lid but i didnt want to hang it on there cause im worried it'll leave little chips on the gas doorlid, so up on the windsheild it goes.

CJ,

I would love to de-amber but the cost of the headlights has put this on the back burner as well ( hard to justify spending $1k for new headlights when mine look and work just fine just to get rid of the orange, and I think it would look like crap to just replace the rear and side lights ).

Hey ddb, yes us 987's have a gas cap tether and a little hook! :)

My 2000 has a hook and tether.

ddb 10-24-2007 06:15 PM

bmussatti:

Thanks. Another reason to aspire to a 987 one day (white of course)!

blue2000s:

Interesting. Maybe I have the hook and just don't realize it. I definitely don't have the tether. I do know my gas cap was replaced before I bought the car due to a recall. I have a sticker on the inside of the rear trunk stating such. Any indication that your gas cap was replaced?

Thanks,

ddb

It's definitely stock, here's a pic of the tether and hook and one of the tether attach.

ddb 10-26-2007 10:07 AM

blue2000s:

Thanks very much for the pictures. I have the hook, but never noticed it since I don't have the tether. The next time I'm at my local dealership I will see if they can get me the tether, or a new gas cap with it already attached.

My gas cap was replaced before I bought the car due to a recall. I guess they just tossed the tether with the old cap. I know about the recall because of this sticker on the inside of my rear trunk.

I felt the same way, I bit the bullet and upgraded to the litronics and they are worth every penny. If you are just doing it for the looks to get rid of the ambers, then yeah I don't know if they are worth it, but if you factor in how much clearer you are able to see at night then its very worth it. I would definitely do it over again if I had to.

NickCats 10-28-2007 06:08 PM

boxs,

Car looks good ! I rarely drive the Box at night, so the litronics really wouldn't be much of a benefit ( other than the fact that they look cool )

Nick
