Got the 00 Boxster S home tonight

After a pretty tough day working through all the hoops, including a PPI and final negotiations with the seller, got our new 2000 Boxster S in Speed Yellow home tonight. I'm pretty wipped at the moment but had to log on to post a quick picture and look up the option codes.

I am psyched to say the least. The car has 24K miles on it with a nice set of options to include Litronics, heated seats, Bose sound system, computer, and the mechanics comment that it doesn't get much better than this for a used car. Also came with an aftermarket Borla exhaust that sounds sweet as punch.

While decoding the options, I was pretty pleased to find that it has a limited slip differential. My question: is limited slip an option that normally comes with an S model or was it something ordered special?

I'd also like to say I"m looking forward to meeting up with my NoVA Dorki brothers. You know who you are...

I've attached at least one pic with more to follow soon.

Very Nice!
I like the spoiler sticker!
Also, if you need any help decoding your option code let me know, I am pretty good at finding the codes. Not sure about the differential, but I think it might part of the PSM.

Thanks...that's right...forgot to mention it has TCS (PSM?).

blinkwatt 10-22-2007 07:17 PM

Borla exhaust? That looks more like the PSE(Porsche Sport Exhaust) to me. Can you take more pics from below the car?

rick3000 10-22-2007 07:41 PM

You can have a TC (Traction Control) system or the Porsche Stability Management (PSM). I honestly doesn't see the difference between them but I don't have either. I agree it looks like a PSE exhaust.

Are you sure it has the BOSE system? If I remember correctly BOSE was introduced in the 02' 986 S.....although I did talk to someone who swore his 01' S had BOSE stamped on his door grilles and on a subwoofer in the rear compartment.

rick3000 10-22-2007 07:55 PM

You can add the Bose system to any 986, it was an option but is also an aftermarket kit. So it could have been added by a previous owner. :D

very nice car , congrats.

personally, i dont like how that exhaust sits, you can clearly see it and its too low in a sort of way. maybe diffusers?

Where can I find the aftermarket BOSE kit that you speak of?

bmussatti 10-23-2007 05:45 AM

Very nice! I like the Porsche Sport Exhaust (PSE). I don't think there was a factory LSD.

We need more pics! :)

I saw the kit a while back. It was a link in a forum post either on here or renntech. I don't have the link though. :D

Are you sure it wasn't the OEM rear speaker kit or just someone selling the BOSE subwoofer?

Here is a setup sold by Suncoast. It doesn't say Bose in the description and I can't read the name on the speaker grill. Damn, it sure is pricey.

^ That's the one I am talking about.

And to turbo23dog, we need some more pictures and a few of the speakers to let you know if you have the Bose system.

turbo23dog 10-23-2007 08:45 AM

I'm running between meetings and sneaking a peak while choking down a sando...

Got it on the Porsche Sport Exhaust. The seller told me it was a Borla and that information was passed to him by the person he bought the car from.

I Googled Porsche Sport Exhaust and found several entries; the picture below posted at

is obviously what I have on my car.

I have the Bose complete package on my 01 Boxster. It was a factory option. Comes with the amp in the front trunk and E.Q. for the stereo. It deletes the cup holders. It doesn't have the Bose stamp on the speaker grill, but is on them if you take them out and look on the back of them. Same thing for the rear speakers. Also came with the 6 disc CD changer mounted next to the amp as part of the package. Radio/CD manual says Bose also. I think in 02 they started putting the Bose badge on the outside of the speaker grill.

I do have an equalizer in the lowest position on the center bank. Has buttons for Rock, Classical, etc, plus other buttons I haven't even figured out what they do. Will find out more tonight.

Yep, that's what mine says too.

Finally got some time to get a few pictures of the new car. Its a Speedster and there were no directions on how to mount the humps. After a bit of study, we finally figured it out. At first I thought mounting the humps was more work than it was worth but after it was all done, they grew on me quickly and I really like the look.
