Wow, tore the wheel right off.

There's always the bright side, motor transpant in your future?

Are any of the wheels salvageable? They'd look good on your car.

CJ_Boxster 06-28-2007 07:21 AM

LOL nah, its going to be there for 2 weeks until some flatbed picks it up to store it at the insurance companys parking lot. My father knows the owner really well and will talk to her about letting me swap my rims with hers before the flatbed arrives. Sucky thing is that the rear rim that was blown off is totally trashed... looks cool cause the brake caliper is still attached to it.. shoulda taken a photo of it. Anyways, that means i'd have to drive around on 1 17 inch rim and 3 18 caymen rims for afew days till i source another single cayman rim... I will be taking the painted crest center caps before the destroyed rim is trashed. :)

Looks like i am taking those, I might take the S brakes if they fit my 97 boxster but not sure they would fit.

It looks like a great opportunity for an engine swap!

Seats too!

CJ_Boxster 06-28-2007 08:07 AM

All that stuff would be great but im sure the insurance company would freak out when they see the old seats to a 97 boxster and a old 2.5 liter engine in the bay LOL .. I dont wanna do nuts on this car LOL seats are awesome looking though!

I would think Porsche would have an interest in inspecting this car before repairs are made. If I were that lady i'd give Porsche a call maybe they would buy the wreck for a good price. The engineering feedback for a fairly new model could be worth more to them than the cost of the car itself.

CJ_Boxster 06-28-2007 08:32 AM

I bet they wouldnt care, since they already crash test the models anyway. Looks like it handled the wreck pretty well... i bet the wheel flying off had to happen to probably keep something else more important from failing... like the chasis breaking and causing the cabin to rip wide open like a Enzo's engine bay ripping off the Passenger compartment..... I dont really know but im sure theres some logic to that happening.

Any description of the accident? Did she get hit by two cars?

redman12 07-01-2007 01:24 PM

Looks like a total lost. tsk tsk.

mikefocke 07-01-2007 02:14 PM

Sounds dishonest to me ....

You are either screwing the insurance company or the lady who owns the car when you take anything from it. The insurance company because they can't get what they are entitled to when they part out the car. The lady because the insurance company may give her less than she is entitled to for the wreck.

Ur alittle wrong about how the insurance company decides to pay her after the accident, she's paid for what the vehicle is worth before the crash.... she's got full coverage so she'd be fully compensated for her loss by her insurancer co and the at fault party however u are right about it being dishonest and I'm likely to not take the rims from the totaled cayman.

Go ahead and screw the insurance company, they have screwed so many people haha.

Although I dont dislike my insurance carrier, I know that in an accident I will have to fight to get anything close to what I am entitled to. That is just how it is. They tell you they will take care of you, then drop you in a heartbeat after paying out the first claim. Happens all too often. (same with health insurance too - they are even worse than car insurance in CA)

lol

I don't see anything wrong with taking the cayman rims and tires and anything else out of the car you want so long as its presentable. Theyre going to total the car, so you (her) should take any belongings or parts from the car as theyre going to total it.
