Update:

I disconnected the battery, sprayed electrical contact cleaner liberally and let everything sit overnight. Reconnected the battery and I could read the stereo display to input the code....

I tried the electrical contact cleaner and it helped a little on the climate control unit. No change on the radio. Wacky display and no sound.

Just looked at my fuses and don't notice any...

I did everything on your list last winter. And I reused the cam cover bolts. Just cleaned them.

You will need some special tools to do the job. I made them myself.

I have done plenty of work on mine with a floor jack and 4 good stands. Removed my lower plate and it went back on without too much trouble or any straps, etc. a few times, but yours could be more...

I got pretty good at taking the console out and putting it back but I think I will follow your advice and leave it out until I get it dialed...

Mine does it after sitting for a week or so on first startup. 2001S with 99K miles. I changed all three chain tensioners with new ones over the winter and it did not help one bit.
