Not sure if it's the same "emergency release" you mentioned, but I was able to open the "frunk" on my 200O 986 by pulling on the headlight, and getting at the cable behind it.

You've probably broken one of the plastic "cabriolet top pushrod" tips. They are very cheap and easy to fix, but if it broke once there is likely a problem with alignment and they will keep breaking...

On my 986, you can reset the DME by pulling the fuse labeled engine electronics without having to reset everything else in the car like radio...

Hard to say, exactly, as the tires on 18s were conti DWS and Michelin PSS on the 19s, very different tire feel. Generally though, I've experienced a firmer ride on 19s.

Swapped the PO's wheels for my own set of 19" Sport Designs, adjusted the ride height a bit, then took the new car for quick 200 mile drive through Delaware Water Gap area.

Why do you want to swap your 2.5 for a 2.7? The difference in power is pretty minor, but it will be a pain to get it working. I'd look for a Carrera's 3.4 -- much more power and an easier swap.
