Also check the seal on the plastic snorkel (inlet) on the throttle body. That is a PITA to put back on properly.

Check the alignment on the rubber collars...
Check the alignment on the rubber collars connecting your plenum (throttle body) to the intake manifolds. I bet you have an air leak.

First thing I thought of when I saw the photo is a coolant leak into the oil system. The residue under the oil cap is not normal. Hopefully it is something simple like the Oil Cooler.

You shouldn't be seeing oil on the air filter unless it was a K&N reusable filter, Tacky Oil is used on those. I can't imagine someone spraying tacky oil on a paper filter... but???

Tim, You might have other vacuum leaks besides the AOS. If your mechanic did a smoke test he might have found a cracked hose(s). BUT, if you have major suction at the oil fill tube the AOS is bad.

AOS is suspect.
At idle remove your oil fill cap... Is it difficult to remove? After removal does the opening sound like a Shop Vac? Put your hand over the opening... Is there a lot of suction?
