Yup, that was the announced logical step. But they also announced, that the 911 will keep its iconic flat 6 Boxer engine as long as it will be legal in the major markets. So no worries for the 911....

Pretty sure, when it comes to the dome light housing, 986 and 996 are incompatible due to the simple fact, that a 996 (including cabriolet) has a different roof (locking) set-up.
