They fit fine. Your hands will be sore and it take a while for wrinkles to settle out depending on your upholstery skill set. You get to pick the shape Nice thick leather too.

I am thinking vacuum leak also. Smoke test or gently spray some starting fluid around hoses and under intakes. If there is a leak the motor will speed up.

I shift like a geezer anyway! Im not crazy about the feel of mine. I found a deal on a 987 shifter today. I may put the upgraded bushings on it for tightness. I will update you on the outcome.

Educate my on how a short shifter can hurt the tranny. The bottom lever is longer which means the handle does not have to move as far. Is it not going into gear properly?

Ebay has some in the $200 range. I was shopping them and ended up with a cheap short shifter kit. The 987 is likely smoother but with a bit more slop.

If your pump comes on at start it is not a relay or pump problem. You can hear it. My car is getting those codes also. There are a couple of valves that can be at fault, or a vacuum leak. let us know...
