Been through this on a number of boxsters and every time It was cables fail, not gears or motor.. The cable runs smooth, no clicking at all. I’ve used the uro cables and they were the same as stock....

they pop right off from either side with a flat head. You can bend them back into shape if they get distorted, but they are also pretty cheap so I bought a few to replace any that break or bend...
