I'm pretty sure that there isn't an egr valve on the boxster, I thought egr was a diesel thing.

I think you probably need to prime the lines. As with changing any fuel filter it needs to be primed before the car can start.

Does anyone know a part number for the torx screws and rubber grommets that hold down the panels either side of the battery?

Mine were corroded and got ruined when I removed them since the brass...

How likely is it going to be that the oil is causing this problem?

It wouldn't be my first suspect as when the oil is cold...
