I would start by checking the cooling system to ensure it is properly purged of air, check the connections to the sending unit, etc before I moved on to replacing parts that may not be bad.

Another vote for debadging, I think it looks tacked on anyways. Next will be removing the hood emblem and replacing it with a 911 RS light weight emblem, also known as a sticker.
