Update:

No idea how they became disloged, but I noticed the small drain hole below the base of each wiper, and both caps somehow fell down those holes and were sitting in the plastic covered area...

Not too happy, but when spraying my car in a self serve car wash today, I noticed both of the little plastic caps that cover the nuts secuting the windshield wipers to the car are gone....
