Well, the diagnosis is in - a faulty idler...

Well, the diagnosis is in - a faulty idler control valve was to blame! Changed the valve, cleared the codes and reattached the MAF and all is well. Back to happy motoring :)

The refrigerant was removed from the system by the indp. shop when they diagnosed the problem. This was how they "locked out" the compressor so I could drive it without worrying about the issue...
