You need to enter Piwis scanning a 996, the cluster is a different model (I.e. K27 instead of K21) and is not listed on the 986 'official' alternatives, reason why you probably get a question...

Im using the original board form the boxster and the 996 gauges. I've already Transplanted the two flat cable...
