Engine run stand.

When you say plug in the harness... you mean put the engine in the engine bay but not fitted to the car.

STL. :On the over run: means lifting of the throttle pedal & letting the engine coast... I can,t see I have any other choice BUT to strip the engine to find the cause of the noise...eventually...

Homeoboxter, Where did you buy your ring set & do you have a part number...what did you set all your ring gaps to...because your car runs great with no problems...oil consumption etc.

Thanks Ike...that seems to be the problem, none of the manuals give the specs because they did not expect the engines to be rebuilt...but people are rebuilding...you can now buy all the parts...

Homoboxter, When I chacked my bearing clearance with the plastigauge I only torqued the bolts to 20 lb/ft...25 nm...now on final installation torquing to 20 lb/ft then 90 degree my crankshaft locks...

I have done a plastigauge check on the 7 main bearings...all 7 were at 002" across the board...so the casings are straight & clearance,s OK...no more panic.

I understand what you are saying...when I stripped the engine it was obvious that someone else : not Porsche : had been inside the engine...rtv etc. so my guess is they have cobbled an engine...

I have removed & fully stripped my 1997 2.5 Boxster engine after a suspected IMS...caught it just in time...I am now rebuilding with ALL new parts...I found that the engine is an AT Porsche...
