987 battery replacement - Do you need a vent with the new battery?
Hi,
I bought a 2006 Porsche Cayman S. It needs a new battery. Local Costco has an Interstate one for a reasonable price but doesn’t have a vent. This is the one recommended for the car. Do I need the vent? If so, any suggestions on a favorite battery? Thanks |

If the battery is a sealed battery and your asking if you have to use a battery with a vent??? The answer either one is fine. I think most batteries now days are the sealed type. |
AGM is a no vent battery if that's what you're looking at at Costco.

Batteries have a typical lifespan of about 24 months b/c of the heat. In fact, that's what the battery testers @ Pepboys/Autozone/etc. will print out for you if you ask. I now buy Bosch-brand batteries... b/c they have a 36mos replacement warranty and a 96mos pro-rated warranty. I've had 2 batteries died on me (once in the Boxster (26mos) and the other in my Audi A4 (18mos)) and took them back to Pepboys, they look up my info, looked at the mfg date and gave me a brand new one at no charge. Just make sure you keep a copy of the receipt/scan it so the receipt ink doesn't fade on you after a year.

Costco has a 42 month full replacement warranty. It used to be 48 month. Walmart also has at least 36 month free replacement.
If you got a H6 or H7 battery from Costco, it should have the vent |
