Hi,

There are several ways to chip a car. You can add additional Maps, you can piggy-back on the OEM ECU and overide default Maps when certain parameters are experienced, or you can trick the ECU into seeing different conditions than those actually present. Some of these are actual hardware chipsets while others are merely a code over-write.

It is more difficult (therefore more expensive) to break the OEM code to write additional Maps (which are tested to work properly) than it is to create hardware/software which sends false sensor readings to the existing ECU.

I have not researched whether or not these chips differ in this manner. Also, each company's market research establishes the price point people are willing to pay and they price their products accordingly...
