looking for a measurement.on variocam tensioner .
I don't expect anyone to have this right away .. but thought i would leave it here for the future. I got my variocam tensioners done without the left hand threaded rod required for my car. ( 2001 S )
This would have made the job way easier .. so i ordered the left hand threaded rods and nuts. it came and was 10 inches long. I was going to put it in the tool kit of the guy who loaned me the timing tools so the next guy has them. I was going to cut it in half and make 2 tools.. but i'm wondering is 5 inches long enough to double nut it and still be long enough to pass through the first non threaded hole and into the second LH threaded hole to pull the tensioners together ? I think it would be but thought i would ask the collective in case anyone had a tensioner out right now or has one lying around. Thanks ice |
These are the tools I made from a brass rod. Since I am incapable of doing things the easy way I bought a left hand die of the proper size to cut the threads on the bottom of the rod. The top threads are regular SAE threads since it is easier to get that size of nuts. It took a lot of work the way I did it... but that is another story.
