Noob ? Re: headlights

I did a forum search...HONEST!!

Forgive another noobie question.

Why do the headlights do that crazy little dance when you turn them on?

They are the xenon ones.

If there is a link, i'd appreciate it!!

Thanks.

I think all HID's flicker on start up.

Its not flickering. They dip downward. You can see the actual housing move maybe 20 degrees and then they come up and level out. Sounds like a motor whirring when this happens.

Indeed.
I actually thought the whirring was a sign of something wrong. I thought it was a fuel pump or something sounding too loud. You're not the only noob.
The crazy dance is the self-levelling system on start-up. Now let's do the Dance of Joy!

The xenon headlights sure take getting used to. Not to hijack the thread but is the illumination pattern of other people's slightly v shaped between the 2? They start higher from the outside of the road and come together a bit lower in the center?

To throw a tangent on your hijack, I had a Acura TSX right after they came out. The xenons had such a sharp cut off, you could not see a dog standing in the road 100 yards in front of you. That and a wonky shifter made me sell it 4 months later.
