Oil filter for IMS solution

For those who have fitted the pressure-fed IMS solution, what oil filter do you run?

Wix 51348XP exclusively.

JFP why the XP version vs the regular 51348 ? I believe they are both 21 micron filtration .

JFP in PA 11-24-2022 05:37 AM

XP is designed for use with full synthetics and uses a different media material

Good info thanks for sharing . I recently noticed the 51348 are stamped as made in China ☹️ . Online the 51348XP says made in USA . Previous 51348 filters said made in USA or Mexico . I prefer USA when possible .

By chance do you know if there is an XP filter that doesn't have the anti drainback valve that fits the IMS Solution filter adapter ? It's not needed when mounted vertically . Is that correct ?

Not exactly sure what you are trying to accomplish here with the drain valve............

Wix filters are made in multiple locations, we have never seen any difference in performance of effectiveness based upon where they came from.

I was asking because why have the added complexity of the anti drainback valve if it's not needed . I realize it's not all that complex but I use the KISS principal whenever possible .

Having never had an issue with anti-drain back valves, and we have done a LOT of oil changes over the years, I don't see it as an issue.

Fair enough thank you .

Just out of curiosity.
This is from the LNE website:
“Replacement Napa Gold / Wix / Hengst / Mahle / Mann Filter for use with LN Engineering Spin On Oil Filter Adapter on vehicles equipped with the IMS Solution or with 106-01.3 Spin On Oil Filter Adapter for 2009 and later Boxster and Cayman Models with 9A1 MA1 engine.

Due to filter availability, we may substitute Napa Gold 1215, Wix 51215, Mann W7015, Mahle OC1063, Hengst H319W, or Baldwin BT223 oil filters for the Napa Gold 1348 / Wix 51348 filter.”

I wonder why both Wix 51215 and 51348 are on the list?
My kit came with the Hengst.

The Wix website says the 51348 has " enhanced cellulose " filter media vs the 51215 has " cellulose " filter media . Both are 21 micron rated and flow 7-9 gpm . Is enhanced cellulose a better media for synthetic oil ? I don't know the answer .

Full synthetics have lower surface tension than conventional oils, which is why they also have better heat transfer properties. Modifying the media takes advantage of these properties to enhance filtration.

Thanks for the explanation JFP.
