TRW inner tie rod design change
I purchased a pair of TRW JAR 1013 inner tie rods from FCP euro. It seems as though the part is a different design. The outer body of the joint is deeper and the ball sits probably 5-10mm outboard from the previous design.
I'm not an engineer, but I believe pushing the inner pivot point closer will short the total length of the tie rod arm. Does this change the rate of wheel pivot relative to steering input? Reason for concern with PSM or other factors? |
I don't believe that you will have any issues as you will have to align the steering afterwards, also TRW makes great products (IMHO).

Thanks for your input guys. Stock of the TRW inner tie rods has become minimal. I wonder if this change is temporary or possibly a more robust design. The original inner tie rods seem to have a short time to failure.

For anyone who followed this thread, I contacted ZF directly (group that owns TRW). I sent them photos of the replacement in sealed labeled bag, and removed from the bag next to the original parts
They believe these inner tie rods were mislabeled and asked me to send the tie rods to them and they are shipping me the correct tie rods straight from them. |

Were the parts stamped with a completely different part number? I ask because last summer I got some TRW parts and I had some iffy concerns but checked the bag and the physical part numbers to be correct. They were ordered on Amazon and dropped shipped from ZF to me. |
