ticking sound on deceleration

Hi all,

I have notice something this week on my 03 2.7. if im driving along and lift my foot of the accelerator I hear a ticking sound which sounds like injectors or lifters. if I press the clutch in while moving it goes away as the revs drop. however if I re engage the clutch to bring the engine revs up again the ticking comes back. as soon as I accelerate even the slightest amount it goes away... does anyone know what this could be?

I had a similar sound, clatter/tick at idle, went away with throttle.

Mine was a failed intermediate shaft chain tensioner.

Regards,

Silber

Chain tensioner or chain adjuster? The following part numbers:
996 105 176 51
996 105 180 54
996 105 179 57
996 105 179 58
Which are for parts that look like this:

... in the Katalog PET) are referred to as chain adjusters, but they are almost always called chain tensioners here and on other boards.
Not to be pedantic but I find it very confusing since there are other parts that are properly called chain tensioners.

I changed two out of the three tensioners when I did the ims. i have the third one on hand which is the top near the aircon I never did it so maybe time.. ill give that a go and see if it fixes the problem.

thanks
