Cam timing question.

I am in the process of changing my chain tensioner pads and have finished and reassembled the bank 2 head. I checked the timing and it is way off. To correct it I have to turn the crankshaft backwards (about 30 degrees I think) but I have read several times that one should never turn the engine backwards. Would it be OK to do 30 degrees in one shot or should I do several smaller adjustments?

You do this whit the cam ring bolts loosened and with the tool bolted down .then you rotate the handle back till you can push the tool in then you tighten the cam ring bolts down.
