Coolant dump

02 tip with 80k. Noticed condensation on trunk lid last week, suspected coolant tank failing. Yesterday it did a coolant dump and was towed to house. Tomorrow I am in shop with car on lift. Given the volume, I would suspect hose failure, but would the tank catastrophically failing dump a gallon of coolant? Thoughts on what to look for? Asking for a friend. [emoji846]

Fill up the system with distilled water and pressure test it at 18 PSIG while up in the air without the engine running; any leaks will become self evident......................

And yes, the tank can easily dump a gallon while hot.

Steam on trunk lid above fill area to me would indicate a cap or purge valve problem. Make sure it has a late cap ending in .04 or greater and that it is threaded on correctly.

Pulling the trunk carpet will yield clues about the tank. When changing out my tank, the hoses in the trunk were very clean and easy to inspect. If there is coolant residue under the carpet, you ought to be able to determine if the tank cracked.
