Has Anyone (Hot Rodded) a 2.7
I 'am curious, If I ever had to rebuild my 2.7..could you rebuild it for more power or torque using different cam's and head work Etc,like you can on most engine's ?? Thanks Frank

I can't think of anyone that has tried. As a goof I stuck a 3.4 intake and throttle body, along with a 3.8 exhaust manifold on my 2.7 rallycross boxster. I haven't gotten it on a dyno but I can tell I lost some low end torque and think I gained HP above 4500rpm. Those 2.5/2.7 heads can't flow much. I don't think you can run 3.2/3.4 heads on a 2.7 either. You'll have better luck for cheaper upgrading to a 3.2 or 3.4

There's some interesting interchangeability mentioned by Jake Raby here: https://rennlist.com/forums/996-forum/684465-is-there-a-diference-between-a-3-2-986-and-3-4-996-head.html#post9339329

Sure you can. New pistons, rods, bearings, cylinder liners, etc. Lots cheaper to swap a 3.4 from the same year into it though.

Yea..if I ever had to I would go the 3.4 route I was just curious because my Cam deviation numbers are not great..Bank 1 = 8.6 and bank 2 = 3.6 or something ,..I will do tensioners and see if those numbers change but I doubt it

BYProdriver,..back with the 1979-88 with the 3.0 Ltr engines you could install the 964 cam's and get a nice Bump in power..and so Iam curious if the same could be done on these engine's not really displacement just some extra kick so to speak,..But I'am sure computer controlled engine's are most likely set at there best performing range already
