Airbag-free steering wheel.
While I love my Boxster, I hate that four-spoke steering wheel. I also hate airbags. I've had one triggered and it's pretty obnoxious. Don't get me started on overly-complicated safety measures when a harness would have been cheaper and safer, but that's government.
Anyway,I've found a three-spoke minus airbag. I would like to find either a faux airbag or something to fill the space. Is there such a thing? |
The worst 986 I ever bought had an empty -probably blown and cleaned out- airbag. A previous owner and sealed it from the back side and refinished it (poorly). I could get pics if you want to get an idea of how it was done. I could even let you have it if you want to buy my three spoke (non-Tiptronic) steering wheel priced at whatever the comparable 'sold' price is on eBay.

why not just get a 993 RS wheel?

Because I already have a 986 three-spoke!
78F350: I appreciate the offer! I would like to see those pics, though. Thanks. |
If you have a reason to delete the airbag, but want to keep the same look, I think it's a good way to go. This one is a poorly done example. A better way might be to start with a good airbag and just pull the guts out. Liability clause: Don't try it yourself, you will surely die when it explodes. Take a look at this video for ideas on disassembly: https://youtu.be/8lZNL5G_-EQ

When he removed the airbag I backed away from my monitor. |
Ok, that gives me an idea. I know a good automotive upholsterer. I may see if he can craft something.

If you delete it you’ll need to either shut the airbag sensor off, or delete it. Carnewal has all the stuff you need to back date your wheel for the horn to work plus the airbag delete bung.
