"996" housing in a Boxster

I wanted to test a 996 MAF housing in my Boxster(986) for an upcoming project.
Problem is the 911 housing is part of the airbox. An older BMW 540i has the same size MAF housing as the early 966s.

So I bought a few parts off ebay to hook up the BMW housing and I swapped my Boxster MAF sensor into the BMW housing.

We get this contraption:

The engine will run but has problems and sometimes stalls. She needs a tune.
After I tuned the DME the engine runs great and idles normally.

I still have to pack it nicely since I can't drive with the engine bay open all the time.
I can't say how well this setup will work in the long run.
I still have a lot to test before I can recommend this to anyone.

Let me know if I posted in the wrong category, for the future.

If that air filter is going to just rest in the engine bay, you will not be happy. That will be heat soaked like you wouldn’t believe

You could do something like this. It works great. SUPER LOUD though.

Relocated airbox and intake to rear window

what problem are you trying to solve? A 2.5 doesn't really need much more airflow
