Rear heat shield needed?
Allways looking for possibilities to reduce weight. Those heat shields on my picture, are the really needed? Seems to be protecting the rear bumper cover from heat. I figure that I might keep the shield above the exhaust but remove the one behind and on the sides. Using a modded "che-catback exhaust" fyi.
Any thoughts? Will the bumper cover be damaged without the shield? http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1586416452.jpg |
I've removed all of the rear heat shielding and rear bumper brace from mine. Every race car I've seen has had them removed too. Most race cars have a hole cut in the rear to let heat out though. I'm thinking you'll be fine even if you don't cut a hole in your bumper because of where you live.

They don't weigh enough to matter removing them.

Even though it can actually get pretty hot even in Sweden, I guess it should work. I guess the risk is daamaged paintwork if it gets too hot.. |

Yes, just remove it. Unless you sit in traffic it shouldn't be an issue.
After I removed all of the rear heat shield, I ran some adhesive "gold" insulation under the trunk area. It eventually it started to fall off, so I removed it. Doesn't look like a necessary item and the DME still works. If it doesn't serve a purpose remove it :) |
