Quarentine Special: Widening the car by 4"+
Well looks like my track events are canceled for two months and with some time on my hands I thought I'd tackle a high labor low budget project. The idea is to widen the car by at least 4 inches by extending the front suspension out and using spacers in the rear (those poor poor wheel bearings). The idea up front is to extend all of the adjustable arms (control, trust, sway bar linkage, tie-rods) with longer chromoly hardware and to move the strut tower mount out 2" per side by swing it around (I have this part roughed up in the picture below, lots of cutting and welding still required but I wanted to confirm there's room under the car for the strut bearing to sit further out (at the same angle). I'm not sure what I'm doing for flares, in the front I'm going to try and just pull the fenders out which should add some wheel well venting.

the poor bodywork on this car lol.
from a strength perspective, will the areas you're relocating the shock tower to be sufficient? |
truegearhead, I LOVE your threads. You take impulsive and intrepid to a new level.... I love it.
