replacing shifter cables on 2001 Boxster S

I'm thinking about replacing the shifter cables on my Boxster S (136,000 kilometers). The shift action is kinda ropey and imprecise. I had the cables adjusted by a Porsche mechanic which improved things a bit, but I hear these cables stretch over time. Anybody have any experience with this? Is this a proven route to improve shift action in older cars?

Yes, it is.
And if you REALLY want to improve shifter feel, couple your new cables with Ben Nenert's (BenAutoDesign) short-shift kit. You'll be glad you did. (I am)

Having changed cables then shifter on my current car and just shifter on the previous one, you will probably notice the most effect from the shifter.
