Motor ran without oil. Toss it or rebuild? Last season I lost an accusump line and ran the car completely out of oil because I’m an idiot. I’ve since swapped it out with a 2.7 but still have the old motor sitting around. It still runs but even with new oil in it you can hear the bearings. Are these worth rebuilding? Can I do anything creative like install a 3.6l crank? It’s an early 2.5 Cheers, Stu |

I'm just gonna toss my old 2.5 block (IMS failure) at the local European shop. If they give me like $500 I'll take it. If not it becomes a coffee table. That's my plan, but you might split yours open and find the bores clean and nothing warped or too badly mangled. |

Well my friend, you are not alone... Nothing to do with the Accusump, just human error in this case. When I get another engine back into the car, maybe I'll tear the block down and see what kind of damage complete oil starvation does to an M96 engine:) I guess my question would be if the camshaft/head cover journals are damaged or still usable. There was certainly a heavy rod knock and low oil pressure light. |

Usually the rod bearings are the 1st to go followed by the crankshaft rod surfaces soon after. Good crankshafts are getting hard to find & expensive. |
