2000 Boxster S top question
1 Attachment(s)
I posted this in Boxster general. Perhaps that was the wrong forum, so I’ll try here. “Hey good people, newb here needing some assistance. New-to-me 2000 S Tip - clamshell works but top only manual.
Poking into it today found both top pushrod red sockets busted, but also the driver’s side ball joint mount is snapped off! Is this part of the top frame replaceable? If so, anyone know what the part is called, or have a diagram or a part number? Thanks in advance! Bill” |
I've searched and searched here and the other forums, but ain't getting what I need.
Guidance please, if possible, and thanks. B |
Please post a picture of where that part was connected.

Its a big piece that will be difficult to replace. The easiest way would be to just get a complete top from a car that is being parted in your area.
An epoxy or adhesive might work, but I expect that it won't stand up to the force for long. A TIG weld would probably be the best repair. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1571001153.jpg |
Nice! Thanks y’all. Nearest top frame I can find (on Car-parts) is 65 miles away. I’ll hit up the local pick n pull and see if they’ve got a Box.
Also a complete plastic-window blue top on eBay right now that looks to be in the same shape as mine. That’ll be the laziest solution. Lower on priority list of fixes though. Clamshell lifts and lowers fine and I can manually operate top. Digging in to the slow gas fill next! Bill |
Annnd, some mother ****************er stole my temporary tag while wife and I were at dinner. Now I have to get it inspected first thing in morning so I can get permanent plates.
License plate lights don’t work. LED replacements. No voltage. Sigh. Rear bumper comes off at the crack of dawn. yay. |
