Count down to ignition

Recently, my P-car shows this 5-second countdown, when I insert the key, on the instrument panel. After complete I get the digital oil level on the dash.

I've never noticed this 5-second countdown. What/why is it?

Please report stolen identity to moderator, there is no way on God's green earth after 4 years and 700+ posts on this forum a Boxster owner could not have known about this 5 second countdown timer.........

If you missed the digital oil level instrument then I bet completely you missed the trombone tucked behind the driver seat. Seriously. Pull the seat forward, it's there.

I didn't notice it for a while either. It is the digital oil level readout. Freaked me out the first time I saw it :)

If during the count down the stereo starts playing the Mission Impossible theme song you better eject yourself from the car quick or else

Yeah, the first time I noticed it I was puzzled too. Then it was obvious to me that it's a countdown while it's taking reading of the oil level. I may be wrong, but I never gave it much thought after that. It's easy to miss be because we're usually getting in and immediately turning the key to "start". When you do that, it skips the oil reading, for obvious reasons.

Pay no mind to the smart-a$$ comments. It would have taken a lot less effort to simply answer your question. As if they never had questions that some would consider inane.

It’s true you could miss the countdown if you start the engine immediately but I like this answer better! ;)

It actually took me 37.3% less effort to come up with my response.

Tell me you didn't run out and look behind your seat.

Haha! No, I'm not really interested in wind instruments. Now, if you'd have said there's a drum set back there.....:D:D

LOL! You let me know when you're heading west. I've an electronic drum set you can pound on. One of my sons suggested it shortly after he quit the biz. I love it!

You got it! I haven't touched a set in over 25 years, so I won't sound pretty!
