DME water damaged
 

Hi,
My 1999 Boxster 2.5 is fitted with a Bosch Motronic 5.2 DME. It would appear as if this DME suffered some water damage and needs to be replaced
Can I merely replace this DME with another similar DME ? If so can someone kindly provide details of stockists of such secondhand equipment.

It has to be an exact match to the one in the car, and will absolutely require substantial coding by a dealer in order to work at all.

The new DME will need to be coded to your existing key and immobilizer. This can be done by the dealer or you can ship all 3 to https://www.ecudoctors.com and they can test and do the coding for you.

If goes further than that, the DME has to be coded to the car's equipment features: OBC, cruise, factory Litronics, etc. Matching the DME to the immobilizer and keys will get the car started, but then none of the other features would function.

I would start with the ecudoctors as they can repair water damaged DME's. If you give them a call they will be happy to help you.

They require the cars VIN and from that they can get the options that they need to code for.

Hi all,
I finally established that my DME was not water damaged but that the solenoid for the variable cam adjuster , cylinders 1 ----3 short circuited internally. This caused t damage to two drivers on the DME. The combination of the above caused the actuator to open normally but not to close properly . The result was the valve timing on bank 1 was out of spec and that resulted in the engine misfire at idling .
I had the DME repaired but am now looking for a replacement solenoid.
Any suggestions where I can find a replacement solenoid? Boxster 986 2.5 engine

The misfiring on Bank 1 was caused by a faulty solenoid for the variable cam adjuster cylinders 1 ---3. The faulty solenoid caused damage to the DME A local electronic expert was able to effect the necessary repairs to the DME.
I now need to find a replacement solenoid. Any suggestions?
