Has anyone used Driven Injector Defender? I believe that Jake Raby and LN are recommending it. How often are you using it?

1. The engine was falling on its face at 5200 rpm. 2. With only 56K miles, the car has sat for extended periods of time. 3. The car is 20 years old. But if it runs and you're happy with it, then don't worry about the injectors. Just a suggestion to get it running as well as possible. |
I haven’t considered my injectors. Car pulls good and has 100k and 19 years on it . Makes sense that this could be an issue but I’m curious what the audience has to say. Should I run a gas tank cleaner through the system or pull em. I have a big maintenance coming that includes plugs, tubes and coils, mostly because I bought them, no issues.
Thoughts? Weigh in!!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
On the one hand I believe in the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" way of thinking.
On the other hand It would be interesting to know the condition of the injectors from a good running engine after a 100k miles. And the felt difference if any after sending out for cleaning. |

Those injectors were from a 92K engine that ran fine. My only clue that something wasn't perfect was the dyno test that showed it was a few ponies short of what I was expecting and that is my I had the injectors tested/cleaned. Quote:
But I can say that the engine idles silky smooth and feels like a precision watch. It didn't feel like that before the injector cleaning. YMMV. |

Makes me want to pull mine and send them out. I only have 52k on my 2000S bought it with 47k last July. But it runs so nice I am hesitant to touch it:D |
How hard is it to pull the injectors?

But reading the Bentley manual description of removal it doesn't look difficult. They do come out as a unit (fuel rail and injectors as one). |
For the 993 series, it is recommended by the mechanics I trust to use chevron supreme or Chevron fuel system cleaner every 5th tank to keep the valves from coking, which is a known problem for those cars. Haven’t heard that for m96 motors but still do that out of habit for all my cars.

It’s not difficult or technical. I did this as a first project with my 98. Followed Dempsey’s instructions by the book. Pretty rewarding because you really have to get up into it. There were a few scraped knuckles before I was done.
