Anybody replaced water pump & thermostat with only ramps in the rear? In between houses at the moment so jack and jack stands are at the back of a storage unit.

Unless you were planning to do a coolant flush, ramps in the rear only will work fine.

You can do it, but it will be difficult. You will have to crawl between the ramps from the rear, so hopefully you aren't a large guy!

Can you fins a place that has a pronounced slope to it so the rear on the ramps really gets up in the air? I used to do oil changes that way. The car was level but the slope really elevated the rear so the pump would be somewhat elevated too.

Hmm, that's an excellent idea. The driveway into the garage is short but sloped and would definitely raise the rear of the car. There will also be more natural light and it will be easier to work on than inside the garage on ramps. I probably won't be too popular with the new HOA but if I'm quick enough they might not notice.

it will be a tough job; there is one bolt on the water pump that is very tough to reach with the motor mount in place.
I gave up trying to do the job on jackstands and put the car on my 2 post lift. probably saved myself a couple hours of work

I'm replacing the motor mount as well. Part of the "while I'm there" illness that all Boxster owners seem to acquire ....

It's been a few years since I replaced my water pump, but I don't even recall jacking the car up to change it. Yes there was one bolt that was a PITA, but I got it done.

I replaced my MM when replacing my WP and LTT. With the motor mount removed it was an absolute breeze.

I live in a small HOA (24 units) and my CCRs and R&Rs say "no repairs" in our carports. That's where I've performed all of my maintenance on my 3 cars. Always leave my area clean, with no fluid spills on the concrete.

When I replaced thge WP, LTT, MM, AOS, etc. I had the car on stands for a week... cardboard and plastic under it... my neighbor mid-way through asked me, "Something break?", to which I replied, "No. Just keeping up on the maintenance". Nothing was "broken" or needed "repairing"

I'm waiting for the HOA board one-day to give me a ration about working on my car... and I'll be playing the "maintenance, not repair" card. :dance:
