What is this component on the side of the transmission?
 
This switch like thing is on the side of my 5-speed transmission just above and forward of the left side drive shaft flange. I can't find any reference to it in the PET or via the Audi part number 095 927 404. Help?

It should have a two wire connector.

Bizarre, I didn't see any wires, I don't see a connection point and still the car knew how fast it was going!?

As this transmission is used in more than one make of car, it may just be serving as an oil plug on yours.
