Cannot refuel...Searched....no joy...Help.

Howdy, Gang.

I cannot get fuel to go into my 2004 Boxster.

I have replaced the vent line flapper thing. I can hear the vent tube flapper opening when the fuel filler door is opened.

She still immediately spits out fuel.

Fuse E6 is good. I replaced it anyway and it still doesn't work.

The cell phone cable in the center console has been wrapped.

I'm going crazy.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Also....

...car runs great.

No fuel smell.

Everything is fine, except that I can’t refuel.

Thanks again.

Is this different than the vent line flapper thing you replaced?

My car used to have an issue where it became difficult to add more fuel after it got to about 3/4 full while refueling. But it seems to have gotten better with age so I never got around to doing this. I hope it is what you are looking for.

This is intriguing...

Obvious question first: Did you try to fill at another pump? Just isolating that the pump nozzle was not the issue...:-)

2nd obvious question: Absolutely nothing goes in? And the tank is not full by chance? Don't get offended, just eliminating possibilities...:-)

Could you try and take a straightened hanger wire and see if it goes in while holding the flapper open with your finger? PLEASE be careful and not drop it in the tank...:-)

I am interested to know what you find out...!

Try moving the filler nozzle to the 9:00 oclock position ( horizontal ) and see if that helps . On some cars ( mine included ) holding the nozzle in that position helped . For whatever reason mine healed itself :) about a year ago and hasn't shown that problem since .

When I had this problem, after replacing that part on the fuel filler pipe, I discovered that I had not properly replaced the little pill thingie into its place on the new part. This immediately solved my problem.

So.....

....I have a 1/4 tank of fuel.

Tried different gas pumps.

Tried pump at 90 degrees, 180 degrees, etc.

The little pill thing was installed correctly.

Gimme a minute to read the links in the first answer above.

Thanks guys!

Ok....

....I just looked at the links above.

Nope.

That's not the issue.

She will not take any fuel at all.

Before this happened, I could easily fill her to full.

I also do not have the gas pumps with the fume skirts in my state.

I'm down to thinking it's the Charcoal Canister.

Anybody ever have THAT as the issue?

Thanks.

Success!!!!!

Thank you Jake Raby!

I called Flat 6 Innovations and Jake Raby told me without hesitation that it was the "ORVR Valve".

I ordered one from Pelican Parts and I installed it today. Boom!!!!! That fixed it!

So, for the collective, if your Boxster immediately spits out fuel and you cannot refuel her, replace the ORVR Valve.

I replaced the fuel filler neck flapper valve first, but that didn't fix the issue.

In my case, it was the ORVR.

So, this valve is on top of the fuel tank. You must remove the battery, and the battery tray. To the right side of the hole, there is a black styrofoam wrap around the ORVR valve. I had to slit the foam in order to pry it out. The two hoses were a bear to remove.

Here are the photos, enjoy. Book mark this.

#17 is the culprit

That's the styrofoam after I removed the original valve.

The above is the Pierburg option from Pelican Parts.

That's the original valve I removed. Been in there since 2004. Car has 51,000 miles on her.

Also, I sent a current to the valve and it "clicked" like it was good. But it actually was not.

Thanks for the update! Hope I’ll never need it!

Thanks for letting us know what the issue was!

Much appreciated info man.....

flmont 03-26-2019 05:23 PM

That's messed up.,..so on a long trip and that happens can you cut a hose or is that a MAJOR no no

10/10ths 03-27-2019 03:56 AM

No.

Can’t just cut a hose.

But, you won’t be stranded. It will just take you two hours to fill your tank because you must pump at a trickle for it to take.

But it’s a bad thing.

The only fix is to yank out the battery and get in there and replace the valve.
