undersizing wheels

Hi all, I have a set of 17" wheels with snow tires mounted that used to run on my 986 during winter. My 987 has a setting in the TPMS system for 18"/19" wheels -- will it be ok to put the 17's on for winter?

ninja edit: Now that I think of it, is there any way to temporarily disable TPMS so that I don't have it telling me I'm flat all the time since my snow rims don't have sensors? I have an iCarSoft POR II

Yes, there is a way to disable the TPMS system on these cars; however, you will have great difficulty find a shop to either do it or tell you how, as you would be disabling a federally mandated safety system, and could be held financially liable should the vehicle become involved in an accident after your actions.

17s should work fine and if the TPMS message bothers, you have 2 easy choices:

A. Have a local tire shop install generic TPMS sensors on your 17s. Mine were about $30 ea from America's Tire.

B. Cut a piece of duct tape and place it over the offending message on your dash.

Both methods are proven to work but I prefer option "A".

Or, just ignore it for the winter, and check your tire pressures on occasion.
