Clutch Shudder when Cold
 

Recently started to shudder from 1st gear take off which is much more pronounced when cold.

I'm thinking it's getting close to a replacement clutch.

What do you guys recon?

Mine started doing this about 500 miles before the clutch failed.

Could also be the dual mass flywheel that has started failing.

Any oil leaks from RMS or IMS?

Clearly the right approach is to pull the transmission and thoroughly check everything around the clutch and the flywheel. A shuddering clutch is a clear indication that something is wrong.

Have never done a clutch replacement on a boxy. Is it a hard job?

I guess "hard" would be a relative term. I enjoyed it. A lot of bolts to turn, but not difficult.

I spread it out over 2 days (transmission out on day 1, clutch change and trans back in on day 2). Total of about 16 hours, but I was really taking my time. I think I could do it again in 5-6 hours.

You'll need to get the car at least 18 inches off the ground and have a low profile jack for the transmission. You'll also need a xzn bit (12 point) for one of the transmission bolts...can't remember which size, but it's posted many places online.
You'll also need to support the rear of the engine with either another jack or an engine support bar (mine was $60 at Harbor Freight). I actually did both for safety. ;)
