Well, a true Paddle-shift DSG will be introduced on the '08 Turbo, look for it to filter down to the Boxster/Cayman by maybe '10. For the rest, keep dreaming... Happy Motoring!... Jim'99 |

Dreaming is for fools, This is a serious post , look at what noble cars have done in the UK and tell me I am Dreaming. The customer is King, Long live the King.
|
I'd be happy with a Boxster with crazy power and a few styling cues to make it look a little meaner... AKA the poor man's turbo!!! ;)

...look at what noble cars have done in the UK and tell me I am Dreaming
...all for the base price of a Boxster A noble M400 costs $117, 373 USD. A base boxster in the U.S. costs, $45,600 USD. A base boxster in the U.K. costs, $62, 795 USD. So one...Noble doesn't make the car you're dreaming of at the price point you're dreaming of Two...a good place for the UK to start would be to address the tariffs that make buying a Porsche in the UK so much more expensive than the rest of the world. It's not Porsche that's screwing you, it's your government. |

A noble M12 GTO-3R 352bhp will wipe out all boxsters all Caymans and most 911 for £50k in the UK. The build is fantastic, just drove one, I have driven Porsche for over 34 yrs they have a contender in this Marque make Know mistake, please if you have a old nail its not compatible.I own 3 Porche Vehicles and this is a serious serious DRIVERS car not for bottom nippers if you get my drift.... and I love Porsche.

OK, well that's still $95,000 USD, and is more than the price of a 911 S in the states. We'd all like to have rocket performance with all the bells and whistles, for a low price... sadly that's not economically feasible. Your original question was when will Porsche provide yada yada yada at $45,600. The obvious response is, when it is economically feasible. The example you're citing doesn't support your contention that other companies are providing such cars. The noble M12 uses a turbo-charged Ford engine and has no long-term reliability history, nor is it considered a daily-driver, unlike most Porsches. The car is also lacking a concertina folding roof that folds like a pack of cards and a naturally aspirated 4ltr flat six. In short, what's your point? |

Actually, you can get a Noble M400 in the US for $90k. 425HP, 0-60 in 3.3, Top Speed 165+. True it has a FORD sourced Duratec 3.0L V-6. But, it is throroughly massaged by Roush Technologies, who ditch pretty much everything but the Block, most of the internals are produced to Roush specifications and a pair of ceramic bearing Air Research Turbos are added. This is actually a very reliable powerplant. Ford is one of the world's specialists in casting technology, having invented the casting techniques for the 1st V8 some 70+ years ago. Since then, Ford Blocks have been well respected from the old Ford/Kents and Offenhausers to the more modern Duratecs. The M400 can definitely be considered a Daily Driver and will beat almost anything coming from Stuttgart or Uusikaupunki. I would own one in a minute if the top came off, Cabriolet or Targa. But, I do agree with your views on when and why Porsche doesn't offer what the author is wishing for... Happy Motoring!... Jim'99 |
This is a Noble M12...the car Phill drove and was raving about.
Does this look like a daily driver to you? |
As to the original question,
When hell freezes over. Forget the VW peoples car, Porsche has. |

Yes, exactly My kind of Daily Driver... Happy Motoring!... Jim'99 |

A smaller automaker like Noble will accomodate only a very small market segment compared to Porsche, and therefore are not concerned nearly as much with what the average consumer is seeking. All in all, I think Porsche does a fantastic job of staying true to what we love in a business that is ALL ABOUT compromise by providing a vehicle that will satisfy our wives (get your mind out of the gutter) and all the while leave PLENTY of room for modification should we feel the need for that extra "oomph". In many ways they are therefore still true to being a "volkswagen" (in the Deutsche meaning of the word). Be careful about biting the hand that builds the exquisite machine you love so much, as if it weren't for their truly exceptional ability and striving to please the average consumer and enthusiast alike, we would not be able to enjoy our wonderful examples of engineering the way that we do today. |
Ah, one more thing: I really don't want to be involved in an accident at any speed.
But I really REALLY don't want to be involved in one while I'm driving an M12. :p |
