Replaced MAF, Check engine light ON
Replaced the Mass Air Flow sensor and air filter on my 2000 986 Boxster S. Check engine light was out for two days. It is back on?? What next? Code scanner had bad MAF sensor code listed.

Just reread codes. Now it is not saying MAF. Now reads codes P1128 and P1130 which say OXY sensing?
|
Those are common codes.
Use the search function on this forum to see what others have discovered after following the diagnostic flow chart included in the repair manuals. Mostly not the MAF itself but something affecting the fuel air mix like a leak. |
be absolutely sure that you replaced the MAF with the proper part number. In the 2000 cars, many of the dme or replaced which required a different MAF. What I would do is make sure that the replacement MAF is exactly the same part number as the MAF that you removed.

Those two codes could mean vacuum leaks since they are reporting both banks. Lean conditions. Highly unlikely that 2 O2 sensors could go out. I would reinvestigate the Maf, maybe clean and be absolute its fastened well.

Replaced MAF with Bosch OEM part

I checked around and I am pretty sure this is the latest replacement part(latest version) My first time attempt to get to the engine compartment was difficulty....had a hard time with removing the ball socketed cables. I had ordered a set of tamper proof torx bit sockets. The set had two T8s and the T20 was missing. I had to quit and go around and find a T20. Very frustrating. |

I had one code p1128 which turned out to be just one bank replaced @69K. I did replace both at the time. Still think if you are having both P1128/1130 that it may not be O2 sensor. Check after Maf for unmetered air. Those rubber couplers for resonance tube and Throttle body T.
Is the Maf sensor new? Used ones can be a crapshoot. |
