Squeel After engine ingition
 

Hello, everybody.

I have been having an issue with my 98' boxster ever since I got it. When I start the car there seems to be a very loud and sudden squeal coming from the mid-section of the car (where the engine is of course). This only happens every now and then. I doesn't happen every time I start up the car.

I assumed it might have been the serpentine belt. I opened the entrance hatch to the belt and found it to be in decent condition. There was no cracking or wasn't evidently dry. I did put some belt conditioner just in case.

I deduced that it isn't the ignition switch/cylinder being that the sound doesn't come from that area at all, but I might be wrong.

Starter motor sticking.

The starter motor fix is actually not very difficult. You need to remove the starter. For this, you need long extensions for your socket. The lower bolt is accessed through the cockpit hatch, just below the alternator. I’m sure there must be stuff on YouTube about this.
Once the starter is out, you need to disassemble the solenoid part and clean out and replace the grease. Put it all back together and everything should be hunky dory!
Funny, I need to do this myself sometime soon. Mine is doing that sporadically. Guess I’ll make a new DIY for my channel! :dance:

So, based on what I am reading, I think you're implying that I don't necessarily have to go out and buy a brand new starter, right? I simply have to clean out the one that I already have?

That is correct.

But I will admit, that I bought a new starter when I had this problem. Why? Because I wanted to make sure that it was fixed once and for all and also because reliability is more important to me than saving some $$$.

Right! I'd forgotten the Burner vid. He hasn't been active for a year or so now. I guess his car is completely fixed and updated?

That is a great video! Something I'll be doing myself. Only does it on colder mornings.
