Convertible Top Help. New problem I promise!

I bought this boxster 99 with the top being operated manually. I fell for the seller’s trick saying “it was just the control rod plastic thing broke”. I ordered the new control rod but before installing I noticed that now when I press the button to open or close, I cannot hear the motor running at all. Handbrake “park” sign comes on the dash when I pull up the handbrake so that is not the issue. Windows come down when I unlatch, so it’s not the latch. D3 fuse is fine. It’s currently in manual operation (push rods and control rods disconnnected). However i’m not sure what to fix since I hear total silence when I press the button. I was thinking maybe the motor is dead? Any thoughts are greatly appreciated before I start replacing parts that are not needed to be replaced. Not sure this matters but I got some noise out of the motor after letting the car run for 20 mins. Then back to dead silence again.

Is fuse D3 OK?

Checked the fuse and it looks fine.

Top motor wiring connected? (under clamshell just in front of the 3rd brake light)

Top relay OK? It's the double one above and to the right of the fuse panel.

Will double check but I did get sound out of it up until a couple days ago and did get sound out of it once out of the 20 times or so I pressed the button today so I would imagine it’s wired.

There are two microswitches in the top latch assembly. One senses when the latch is opened and drops the windows - that one appears to be working. The other starts the roof open/close process. My car exhibits the same behavior as yours intermittently, and it's due to this second switch. I think it's the one with the red plunger.

Try taking the latch assembly apart (but leaving the 3 wires plugged in) and operate the top. If you fiddle with the plastic piece pressing on the red switch (apply more pressure on it, or maybe less?), you might find that it will start working. That's what happens on mine, at least.

If ends up being your problem, 986-613-795-02 is the replacement part, which is around $60.

So the button is now working. The clam closes fine but when I hit the open button, it jams and makes a clicking/snapping sound when the clam is about half way up. I did remove the transmission lever (boomerang) when I was installing the new control rods (plastic thing broke). Not sure if maybe I put it in the wrong place? I can manually pull the clam up and when it is in the highest position, the lever looks like a level triangle /\ pointing upward. What could be the problem now?

Any thoughts on this?
