Baseline dyno done, let the mods begin!

2004 Boxster S (not special edition) rated at 258 HP (flywheel). Got 224.2 HP at the wheel from stock motor (only mods to date are deep sump and UDP). This is a 13% drop from Porsche's flywheel rating which seems very reasonable. I am very pleased with this result. Mods planned are 987 air box, 987 MAF, 74mm TB, 987 plenum, secondary cat bypass and 986 special edition tune (DME 7.8). My goal is to bring all this in for under $1000 Canadian!! :eek: I will post my results. :) |
I look forward to seeing results! I have an 01 S all factory (except K&N air). My initial thoughts are IPD Plenum, 74 MM TB and exhaust (no headers) are where the Best Bang for The Buck is at, but anywhere from $1500 - $3000K US

Yes, it was better than I had hoped for! It has about 70k miles on it. The tuner said that as well: Very healthy engine! I’m looking forward to doing these modifications. My local Porsche dealer service tech is looking into pushing the Special Edition tune. (You never know if you don’t ask!). Let’s hope that it works! :)

I haven't dynoed mine yet but plan on doing it soon (before COTA in Feb.) My mods are very similar to what you want except for the 987 airbox, and I have a VR race tune. I also have a 3.2 factory reman engine (2006) with the big bearing, so I don't know if that is 258 HP stock or not. But if it is, I think I'm somewhere in the 290-295 HP at the crank. With 100 octane race gas, it might be slightly more, but it scoots on the track! I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Not sure though if the 2004 SE tune will take advantage of all those mods. Hope it does! Here are my thoughts: Stock 258 HP (maybe more since 2006 was 280HP) Tune +15 HP 74 mm TB + IPD plenum + 15 HP Secondary bypass + 5 HP Total ~ 293 HP crank (maybe a couple more on 100 octane fuel) And the UDP might release a couple more to the wheels... |

Thanks for the lesson on what BHP is ;) Those figures are all converted to flywheel figure. I do have the at wheels figures too, just not all on the same graph. I don't have this car any more so despite me knowing the dyno owner and him being 5 mins drive away, I haven't bothered to get all the at the wheels figures onto one graph.

It seems to me that in the end, torque and power delivered to the wheels is really the only thing that is important unless one is planning a major drivetrain change. Horsepower at the flywheel is more important to the marketers than in the real world.
Oh yes, and I did get that bloody airbox out! Fun fun fun! |
