Smoke at Startup

I have the random smoke at startup.....but I have been letting the car idle for about 20-30 seconds in the garage before I shut it off. I have noticed a big reduction in startup smoke. Is this just coincidence or is there something to it?

Sounds like you have a faulty AOS.

Depends on how often it happens. If I park unlevel or drive the car a short distance I’ll get a smoke puff sometimes on start up but even then it only happens 1/10 times under those conditions. I’d consider this normal. However if you’re driving normal conditions any smoke at start up should be very rare and aos may be the culprit.

Occasional smoke isn’t bad with a flat engine though.

What I was trying to describe is my intermittent smoke at start seems to be less often if I idle the car before shutting down. If I do this I seem to get fewer smoking startups.

It's more then likely the AOS. Letting the car idle burns off excess oil that was sucked into the intake during normal driving. If you let this go, it will kill your cats among other things.
