Center console lid broken
Is it possible to replace the hinged lid on the center console? I have a 2001S and the locking lid broke off. Or do I need to replace the entire center console assembly?

There's a repair kit that has a hinge and some rivets. I had the same issue and got mine from suncoast. It took about 20 minutes to fix.

When you post a link, it's best to break it up so that the forum censor doesn't block it.
The lid on my 01 console was broken off at the hinge. I glued it back on, at the hinge, by using Super Glue and baking soda. It's not as strong as new, probably, but most of the plastic on a 17 year old car isn't. If I'm careful it will last. The lock on my console doesn't work anyhow.:ah: |

It makes the super glue lick. Super glue is not the right glue for this kind of work.

baking soda reacts with the super glue and goes much harder much quicker, it's a pretty cool reaction...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slCMkvEfK_U may as well just get the kit though, it's vastly overpriced for a bit of metal and a couple of rivets but it's quick and easy to do and won't break again for the life of the car. |
Update, I ordered the kit and gave it a try. Its excellent, fit is perfect, cost is minimal, and the install takes maybe an hour at most. I augmented the two screws that hold the new hinge in place with a bit of epoxy. Thanks for the recommendation
