Help! Flashing ABS and Battery Light???
Just happened on my 2000 986 S with 59,000 miles on it.
After starting the car and backing out of a parking space, the motor was kind of hesitant (I thought the MAF sensor was imploding before my very eyes) but then the ABS and Battery light started to flash...with NO CEL light. I pulled over and while doing so the rear breaks on the car grabbed a little (kinda like my ABS pump/booster was comitting suicide). I stopped the car and turned it off. After a few minutes I started it up....no lights.....engine ran good(not hesitant as before)....and drove home (very carefully). What is going on? How much will it be to fix? I will have it towed from my house to Hergeshiemer Motorsports in the AM on Monday. KRZ |
No idea whatsoever, but maybe it's your exhaust. Because it isnt a bolt on is my only reason for thinking that. Did your installer put in crossovers? And if so, how? Will you give us a pic of the setup from under the car. Not to say thats your problem, but I would like to see how you did it.

There is a ABS control unit. Sounds to me like it is on the way out. Also, there are ABS sensors at each wheel that could be going south.

Sound in Back

I found out what the rattling sound from the rear is.....I have a broken exhaust bracket....no worries there. The exhaust does not have a crossover. There are some picks from under the car posted somewhere on here...... KRZ |
My exhaust guy said you need crossovers or else your dash will look like a christmas tree. Thats why I didnt get a custom exhaust (flowmaster), I did that to my BMW but it didnt need any special modification. Maybe thats your problem.

Sorry for the rant on the Flowdisasters....I was a Sales Manager at Magnaflow for a couple years. My conclusions are drawn from seeing how the FM's are made and how they break down. Plus after visiting and speaking with the Shops that put them on, and hearing the customers complaints.....I would only recomend a FM on a V8 to someone looking for that signature raspy flowmaster signature sound. You'll only get a CEL light if you mess around with the Catalytic Converters/O2 sensors....or in some cases I've seen a CEL on cars with exhausts that flow TOO much. KRZ |
Mine definately sounded like a raspy v8 after I had that thing put on. I was considering getting some bypass valves someday ($400, cheaper than a bolt on exhaust and a lot louder when you want it). Do you know of any problems that could result of that?

Be sure to place the bypass valves AFTER the last 02 sensor before the exhaust exits. Are you anywhere near Gulfport Mississippi? KRZ |
No. I am about an hour from Kansas City. Maybe I will get them put on by next year or something, lol.

Update
Well....I drove the car down to my local AutoZone to see if the problem had logged any DTC codes. Nothing showed up...everything ran fine.
I will get the car into Hergesheimer to have them plug the Porsche Computer unit in and dig a little deeper. KRZ |
Update
Ok.....so I took it in to have see if the lights threw any codes.....and all that was left was: " Intermitant Short"
nothing else.....all is good.....nothing to worry about. : ) KRZ |
KRZTACO, have you any idea if I can get a magnaflow exhaust for my 2.5? I can find info on the 2.7's, but not the 2.5...

There are no cat-back systems available yet, or even planned. You can have a reputable shop build a system for you though...... KRZ |
