Convertible window replacement Los Angeles

Hi
986 Boxster Base
The top is in great condition, but the window is cracked and fogged beyond salvage.
Does anyone have any recommendations on where I can get a new one sewn in here in LA or near by?
I am also considering doing it myself and am looking for a source for the right vinyl that I can purchase in person. Any advice on that as well?
Thanks and this board is a great resource!

You want a marine grade clear vinyl like is used on boats. Check around the harbors, made "West Marine" I don't know who can install it, need that for my Box.

Thanks for that.
I live in the south bay area, so someone in one of the boating supply places must have somewhere to go.
I saw a thread on here of a guy who sewed in his own window using an awl. I may try that. It didn't look difficult, but time consuming.

Before you buy the vinyl window, find the shop that will do the sewing. They need a long arm sewing machine and you need to r&r the canvas for them probably - a major issue.
The advantage of doing it by hand with an awl is that you can do it with the frame attached. Akward but do-able.
Don't assume thicker vinyl is better. It is a pain to puncture with the awl. It is not necessarily any more U.V. resistant and may be more brittle/stiff in cold temps.
this gives you an intro to some of the brands:
Clear Window Vinyl, Auto and Marine Clear Vinyl

Thanks Gelbster. Very useful info. I'm leaning towards trying it myself, but I'm going to research some shops first. I'm not keen on removing the canvas myself, nor paying someone a fortune to do it for me. Apparently there are shops that can replace it while still on the clamshell but removed from the car. I'll research the vinyls as well. Since I live in Socal, cold isn't really an issue. Good info on the thickness of the vinyl, too.

Hello Rob,

I recently had to replace the falling headliner on my Cayman and after shopping around ended up at "The Prestige Co" in Anaheim (close to Disneyland) and I noticed that the pictures on their 'wall of fame' included a few Boxters and many different exotic cars that they have done.

I decided on a 'alcantara headliner' and the car looks awesome, and it has a three year warranty, if you want to check them out: http://www.prestigemobileupholstery.com

Good luck!
.
