Debris in Oil filter after oil change (another one - less scary)
algiorda posted a topic here recently about an oil change. Don't want to hijack that thread, so here's mine.
I did an oil change (13000km, one year since last change) and dissected the oil filter with the following result: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tik82e0sXw4 Should I be worried about the metallic and plastic bits? |
Are the metallic bits magnetic?

Since you found debris,in the filter pleats you should also drop the pan. This time use a magnet?Post pan photo here for more advice.

Dropping the pan sounds expensive. I'll show the video to a local mechanic.
During the oil change I took a sample and sent it for analysis. Result came back with only a note regarding the slightly higher fuel content that could be caused by making short trips, which is exactly how I often use the car. What do you guys think? http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02/oil1496518502.jpg |
The one to worry about is iron but at 24 ppm there are no alarm bells going off. Elevated iron would be in excess of 50 from what I have read.
see this article Untitled Page Also, 13,000 km (8000 mi) is at the top end of intervals. 3 - 5k miles (5 - 8K km) is preferable. Frequent oil changes is cheap insurance |
